Called To Serve

How cute is this “Called to Serve” fabric by Riley Blake Designs? I love everything Deena Rutter designs and this time her designs hit so close to home!  My daughter is serving a mission in Manchester England!  Of course I had to make a few little projects to send to send to her!

The fabric comes in a “sisters” version and an “elders” version. I have a little stack stashed away for next year when my son leaves. Also included in the fabric line is a panel of a world map and some fun missionary phrases.

I made two pencil pouches: one for Ella and one for her companion. To make the zipper pouch, follow this tutorial. I fussy cut some of the words and appliquéd them to the front of the zipper pouch.

I also made this cute scripture cover. You can follow this tutorial to make one.

I’m so excited to get these in the mail! If you’d like to learn more about Missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, click HERE.

All You Need is Love {and a cat} Quilt Pattern

all you need cover

I am so excited it’s finally February!  January is soooooo long!  Getting out all my heart quilts helps me feel happy during a long and dreary January.  Each year I write a new heart themed pattern and here is 2020’s!!!

DSC_0242

I’m so in love with it!  I was designing the quilt pattern with 25 Churn Dash blocks and hearts for the center when I realized this quilt NEEDS a little feline!  So in the bottom corner is an optional kitty cat block!  The quilt pattern is available for PDF instant download in my Etsy Shop.

DSC_0134

The fabrics are so delightful!  I love the pink, blue, gold, coral combination.  The fabric line is called Petals and Pots by Riley Blake Design.  For the white background I used Riley Blake Blossom white on white – which I am super in love with!!!

IMG_4068

The quilt pattern is written for fat quarters and you get 2 quilt blocks per fat quarter.

Also, I used an easy piece method which means you only have to cut squares and no cutting triangles!
IMG_4070

I can totally see this quilt in Halloween colors and only cats!

DSC_0201

I hope you love this quilt and it brings a little brightness to winter time.

Mufasa loved modeling this quilt!  He’s so good, he just sits there and doesn’t try to run away.

Vinyl Leopard Zipper Pouch Tutorial

vinyl leopard zipper pouch 6

I love everything leopard print!  It reminds me of Mufasa my cat who is also leopard print!!!
vinyl leopard zipper pouch tutorial

I was in Los Angels a while ago and I found this super cute leopard print vinyl!  It has a little gold shimmer to it even!  I sewed up these fun little pencil pouches and here is how you can make one!  The bag is inspired from my friend Jennifer’s tutorial.

vinyl leopard zipper pouch

Cut the vinyl 8″ square

You will need a zipper that is at least 12″ long.  The zippers I buy are the same price for any length so I always buy 20″ ones!

vinyl leopard zipper pouch 2

Pin one edge of the vinyl square along the zipper as pictured above.

vinyl leopard zipper pouch 4

Using a zig zag stitch, sew along the edge of the vinyl.vinyl leopard zipper pouch 1

I found it helpful to use an open foot so I could see where the needle was sewing and how the vinyl was lining up.
vinyl leopard zipper pouch 3

Pin the opposite edge of the vinyl to the other side of the zipper, making sure both sides are even.  Pin in place and sew with a zig zag stitch.  This is where a longer zipper is helpful so you can unzip the zipper to sew the second side.
vinyl leopard zipper pouch 5

Trim the zipper ends to 1″ overhang and tuck them in the sides.  Pin to hold.  Sew each side using a zig zag stitch and backstitch to start and stop.

That’s it!  You can totally make one in 5 minutes!  Ready, set, go!

You can use any kind of vinyl.  Here are some pencil pouches I made with clear vinyl, colored zippers, and colored thread.vinyl pencil pouch

Merry and Bright Quilt Pattern

DSC_0695

I’m so happy to be releasing this pattern BEFORE Christmas!  I got home from Quilt Market in October and was completely inspired!  I had this idea to create a new Christmas quilt with lots of fun vintage colors.  I knew I wanted deer in the quilt.  I played around with some ideas and then created this!  I love that it is whimsical and vintage feeling.  It was fun to make a quilt with pinks, reds, greens, and aquas!  All my favorites!Merry and Bright Quilt Pattern PDF

The quilt measures 68″ x 77″ which means its a great throw quilt size!  I think I might hang mine 🙂

The pattern is a PDF download available in my Etsy shop.

The patterns is written in sections: the tree, the larges star, the deer blocks, the small sawtooth blocks, and the twirl star blocks.  This makes it easy to do a quilt along or work on sections.Merry and bright quilt pattern

The deer appliqué is done with Heat n Bond Lite and then a straight stitch around the deer.

The star blocks are fun because you can use fabrics from your stash and make it super scrappy!

The Merry and Bright letters I totally cheated!  It’s December after all – no time for tedious work!  I used Heat n Bond Ultra for the letters which is a little heavier and stiffer than the Lite.  Since the letters were thin I was willing to use the Ultra because that meant no sewing around each letter to secure!  The all over quilting helps the appliqué blend right into the quilt!  So if you’re afraid of letters don’t be!

I had the quilt quilted with an all over swirl and holly design and I’m super thrilled at how it turned out!!!  I love it so much!!

Fresh Fat Quarter Quilts

Fresh Fat Quarter Quilts Book Tour Banner

My darling friend Andy Knowlton from A Bright Corner has just released a Quilt Book with Martingale Publishing. The book is called Fresh Fat-Quarter Quilts.  I love this book because it starts out with quilts with 3 fat quarters, then moves up in increments.  It’s so great having a book that works so well with my quilt stash!!  Each of these quilts is so easy to customize with your favorite bundle of fat quarters.  I made this 3 block table runner from one of her patterns.DSC_0929

These blocks sew up in a snap and are 18″ each.  I selected green, pink and red fat quarters.  It was fun shopping from my stash!

DSC_0957

I am so excited to put this on my coffee table!  Just in time for Christmas!
DSC_0933

You could easily turn any one of Andy’s patterns into a Christmas quilt by choosing Christmas fat quarters.  I love flexible quilt patterns!

Farmhouse Charm Quilt Pattern

DSC_0423

I’m super excited to be sharing my newest quilt pattern called “Farmhouse Charm”.  This is one of my most favorite quilts ever!!!

IMG_0770

The quilt is made up of 12″ blocks and measures 67″ x 81″.  Each flower uses a fat eighth so it’s perfect for precut bundles!  This version is made from Farmers Daughters fabrics by Moda.  They are so relaxed and soft!  You can find the quilt pattern in my Etsy Shop.

Country Fall Block Tutorial

I am so excited to be the featured designer for the International Association of Quilters!  I’m sharing a fun project for the month on their site, available exclusively to IAQ members at this time, and I’m contributing a quilt block to the Mystery Night Sky Quilt that the IAQ members are sewing throughout the year.  Scroll down to find more information about joining IAQ.

IMG_0068

I designed this block for the Night Sky Mystery quilt.  You can use any colors, I’m in a fall kind of mood lately!
IMG_0054

I love the cat print – the fabrics are from Riley Blake Designs.

Every month there is a new designer featuring a mystery quilt block.  We won’t know what the quilt looks like until the end of the year!

You can download the instructions for my block HERE,

night-sky-mystery-cover2

I put together a project using just the quilt block and some borders. You  can find the instructions to make the mini quilt over at IAQ.

Blue & Green Quilt Pattern

DSC_0578

Mufasa is ready to announce our latest quilt pattern!  He’s been keeping watch over it until it was ready!

DSC_0568

Meet Blue & Green!  My new favorite quilt!

DSC_0675

There is something about blue and green that makes my heart go pitter patter!  It’s so fresh and happy!!!!  And of course those Cotton + Steel theme print cats from their Beauty Shop line are to die for!

DSC_0561

This quilt measures 73″ x 85″ so it’s a generous size throw – but can easily be sized down by omitting blocks.  It’s available in my Etsy shop just click HERE!

DSC_0570

What I love about this quilt is it’s made with  2 colors which means it’s a perfect pattern for all the sports fans out there.  All you need is a theme print,  Color 1 and Color 2 and 2b!  Here are a few samples I created:
Screen Shot 2019-05-20 at 12.16.54 PM

You can even use the theme print square to appliqué a number, letter, or logo!

Here are the fabric requirements:

Fabric Requirements:

1 ¾ yards theme print fabric*

¾ yard green fabric (color 1)

15 navy blue fat eights (color 2)

15 medium blue fat eights (color 2b)

1 ¾ yard white fabric

⅔yard binding fabric

4 ½ yards backing fabric

*The outer border requires 1 ⅛ yards and the theme print block centers require ⅔ yard if you’d like different fabrics.

DSC_0582

I personally think that Mufasa looks best on the blue & green!  It brings out his spots!

DSC_0634

I hope you love this quilt as much as I do!!
