Follow the Bluebird

Riley Blake Designs has just released a new fabric collection called Hush Hush. It is made up of 21 different low volume fabrics created and designed by 21 different designers! This collection is a must for your low volume stash!

Of course my fabric involves cats! Ella and I worked on this print together and came up with a sweet drawing of a kitty surrounded by little hand drawn hearts. I love it so much!

Riley Blake Designes has released 3 bluebird quilt block designs and challenged the designers to create a project using the Hush Hush collection and a bluebird. So fun right? You can find all the info and the patterns HERE.

You can make a paper pieced or traditional pieced bluebird or an appliqué one. I choose the appliqué method since the quilt involves some appliqué. And I always use Heat n Bond Lite and machine appliqué in a straight stitch repeated a few times – I like fast!

My project of course involved cats! Because you can’t have birds without cats!

I used my Mod Meow quilt pattern and made only 1 of the cat posts in the pattern. I appliquéd 3 kitties from the Mod Meow fabric panel and 1 little bluebird at the top. I love it so much! For the background fabric I used my print from the Hush Hush collection and the pink hearts match the Mod Meow pink so purrrrfectly!

If you want to make a single cat post quilt like I did here are a few things to know – I shortened the “post” part a few inches since it didn’t have to fit next to anything. I added an inner low volume border cut 2.5″ wide, a teal middle border cut 2″ wide, and a low volume outer border cut 2.5″ wide. Then I used blue binding cut on the bias. You can find the Mod Meow pattern in my Etsy shop in PDF or paper. The cat panel is sold seperately.

Seriously this make me smile every time I walk by it!

Mufasa totally approves. He prefers the quilt as a table runner instead of a wall hanging so he can lay on it – it’s a cat thing 🙂

Self Pawtrait Softie

If you know me you know I love cats! So when my friend Pam from Pammie Jane wrote a sewing book all about cats I had to get my paws on it! You will love every project in her book – from quilts to zipper pouches to pillows – there is something for every cat lover! And her photography is amazing!!

I made this fun little kitty softie and I love the creativity of adding a Dresden Plate to the side of the cat! Brilliant!

I made my kitty with Mod Meow fabrics and Riley Blake charcoal linen. I was thinking this kitty would be super cute in black velvet and halloween colors for the Dresden Plate!

Mufasa is thrilled to have another cat around the house!

I just keep thinking how cute these kitties would be for all seasons and holidays! What if you turned the Dresden Plate into a sunflower!! So many fun paw-sibilities!!

Farmhouse Christmas Table Runner

Christmas in July is the best! How fun is it to put on some festive music, bake cookies, and get a jump start on holiday sewing during the summer!! I am always so happy when I get holiday sewing and shopping done early!

Christopher from The Tattooed Quilter, Bev from Flamingo Toes and I teamed up to bring you a weekend of Christmas quilting fun! Each day we will be showing you a new table runner pattern that is totally free – a gift to show we love you!!

My inspiration for the table runner came because I love decorating farmhouse style! I love the casual rustic feel and the neutral color palate.

The classic fir tree green, the neutrals, the pop of black, and the deep cranberry red all give this table runner a farm-y feel.

Also be aware…you may think the table runner is a pretty item to add to your home decor but cats have another purpose for it – a soft and warm place to sleep!!

The fabrics I used are from the collection Farmhouse Christmas by Riley Blake Designs.

This runner uses 12″ blocks and finishes at 49″ x 21″. You could totally make this runner longer by adding more blocks.

You can also turn this runner into a full quilt if you like by adding more blocks and sashing the blocks the same way as the runner. I LOVE it as a quilt and am hoping to make this soon!!!

You can download the patter by clicking HERE.

The Table Runner is 100% Mufasa approved

Also as a bonus Bev designed 3 amazing cross stitch patterns to coordinate with each of our designs! You can get my version by clicking HERE.

These are so darling and are super simple to make! Stitch some up now so you can have them as gifts for Christmas!

One more bonus – my favorite Christmas Cookie recipe – “Cookie Gun Cookies” is what we call them. You use a cookie press and add some sprinkles! They are soooo yummy and go perfectly with Hot Chocolate! We always have a plate of these on the counter all December!

You can find my recipe by clicking HERE.

And now a few more pictures of Baby Mufasa – he’s the best quilt model ever – I don’t even have to tell him what to do!

Mod Christmas Quilt

I’m super excited about this quilt! I love that my Mod Meow fabric collection by Riley Blake Designs totally works for Christmas! I love using pink and aqua in my retro Christmas decorating.

These mischievous retro felines totally belong in this Christmas quilt – they are batting the ornaments, climbing the tree, and wrestling in the presents! Cats and Christmas – it’s the best!

The quilt measures 70″ x 70″ and it has 9 blocks that finish at 16″ x 16″. You can purchase the PDF pattern in my Etsy shop, click HERE.

You will need to purchase the Mod Meow Cat Panel to complete this quilt. The cats are appliquéd onto the quilt and machine stitched.

The panels will be hitting shops the first week of August – so you can totally get started on the quilt and then the cats will be available!

July is the purrrrfect time to get a jump on your holiday sewing!!!

Mod Halloween Quilt

Is it ever too early for Halloween quilts? The Mod Meow cat panel is available now so I wanted to get this quilt pattern out now!

This might be my favorite Halloween quilt ever! Scrappy pumpkins, twirly pinwheels, and mischeveious felines! What’s not to love!

This quilt pattern is available in a PDF version in my Etsy shop. The cats are appliquéd using the Mod Meow cat panel by Riley Blake Designs.

The quilt uses 1 panel (18″) which includes 10 cats. The cats are machine appliquéd using Heat n Bond Feather Lite appliqué medium. (Or use your favorite method.)

The quilt measures 74″ x 74″ and the blocks measure 16″ x 16″.

It’s 100% Mufasa approved!

Mod Meow Mini Quilt

This week it’s all about the cats from the Mod Meow cat panel! Did you know they all have names? Here they are!

I created this fun little quilt to so you can have fun appliquéing cats!

All the fabrics are from my latest fabric collection Mod Meow by Riley Blake Designs.

The quilt measures 24″ square.

You can download the pattern by clicking HERE.

It’s a super fast and fun way to make a little project for yourself! Or for your cat 🙂

Mod Meow Cats and Scraps

I love that my fabric collection Mod Meow has a cat panel!

Yes! You can purchase this panel and appliqué cats on everything you own!!

I designed this quilt so you could appliqué all the kitties on! Feel free to give them all names!

You can download the PDF pattern for free by clicking HERE.

You will love how fast this quilt comes together. It uses all 2 1/2″ squares and background fabric. So you can use precut 5″ or 10″ squares or even 2 1/2″ x WOF strips! Or your scraps!

Make sure to tag me in your photos of Mod Meow on Instagram! I will highlight you in my stories! Happy Quilting!

Mod Tiles Quilt Pattern

My daughter and I were sitting in a movie theater lobby (this was a long time ago) and I noticed the tile pattern on the floor. I snapped a picture of it and used it as my inspiration for this quilt!

Mod Tiles uses precut 5″ x 5″ squares which means its easy to put together! I love this large border print – it really shows off the mischievous cats.

It’s available in my Etsy Shop in PDF or Paper.

Quilt Size 63 ½” x 75 ½”
5” Precut Square Friendly

Fabric Requirements
90 precut 5”x 5” squares
You will need 30 sets of 3 same fabric 5” squares
3 ½ yards cream Mod Meow border fabric*
⅔ yard binding fabric
4 ¼ yards quilt backing

1 ½ yards cream background fabric
1 ¾ yards border fabric

After you cut the border print out of the yardage you are left with enough background fabric to make the quilt! I love this low volume print!

I hope you love this quilt! I would love to see all the different color combinations you use! Be sure to tag me on Instagram @jedicraftgirl and use the tag #modtilesquilt.
